Lava Play Max Expert View

By Shankar Choudhary

Expert Rating

8.1/10

Pros

Strong performance, UFS 3.1, Clean UI, 4K video

Cons

LCD panel, Average selfie, No OIS

Verdict

Lava Play Max is clearly focused on performance and delivers excellent value for its price. The Dimensity 7300 chipset offers powerful performance, making it suitable for gaming and heavy multitasking, which is rare in this segment. UFS 3.1 storage further improves app loading and overall smoothness. The display is good with 120Hz refresh rate, but being an LCD panel, it lacks the deep contrast of AMOLED screens. Cameras are decent for everyday use, though absence of OIS affects stability. Battery life is reliable with decent charging speed. Overall, it is a strong choice for performance-focused users who prioritize speed over premium display quality.

Questions and Answers

The Lava Play Max features a 6.72-inch FHD+ IPS LCD with 120Hz refresh rate, MediaTek Dimensity 7300 (4nm) processor with 2.5GHz speed, vapour chamber cooling system for gaming (segment-first claim), 50MP AI main camera with EIS + 4K@30fps recording, 8MP front camera, 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, 128GB UFS 3.1 storage, expandable up to 1TB, IP54 splash resistance, dual SIM 5G, and Android 15 clean software. Available in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants. Comes in Deccan Black and Himalayan White.

The Lava Play Max 5G launched at ₹12,999 for the 6GB+128GB variant and ₹14,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant. Current market price is around ₹11,954–₹12,900 for the base model. Available via Lava’s retail network and Amazon India.

The Lava Play Max uses LPDDR4X RAM — available in 6GB and 8GB physical options, both with equal virtual RAM expansion support (6+6 or 8+8 = up to 16GB total usable RAM). The storage is UFS 3.1, which is fast and above average for this price range. Note: LPDDR4X is decent but not as fast as LPDDR5 found in phones like the Lava Bold 2 5G and POCO M7 Plus at similar prices.
