Moto G96 5G Expert View

By Shankar Choudhary

Expert Rating

8.6/10

Pros

Premium curved display, strong performance, OIS camera, lightweight design

Cons

Average charging speed, no expandable storage, only 1 year updates, average battery

Verdict

Moto G96 5G stands out with its premium design and curved P-OLED display, which is rare in this price segment. The 144Hz refresh rate and high brightness make it excellent for media and gaming. Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 delivers smooth performance, and the 50MP OIS camera captures stable and good-quality photos. The phone is also lightweight and feels premium with vegan leather. However, the battery is decent but not class-leading, and charging speed is average. Also, only 1 year of OS updates is disappointing. Overall, it's a great option for users who want a premium feel and display.

Moto G96 5G: 6.67-inch FHD+ 3D Curved pOLED at 144Hz, Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, 8GB RAM + 128GB/256GB storage, 50MP Sony main camera, 32MP selfie camera, 5,500mAh battery with 33W wired charging, IP68 water resistance, MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability, stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, 3.5mm headphone jack, Gorilla Glass 5, Vegan leather back, Android 15 with My UX, IR Blaster. Available in 4 Pantone colours.

Yes. The Moto G96 5G has an IP68 rating, which means it can survive full submersion in water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. This is one of its strongest selling points in the under ₹20,000 segment, where IP68 is rare.

Only 1 year of major Android OS upgrade and 3 years of security updates — which is a significant weakness. For a phone priced at ₹17,999, this is below average. Phones like Samsung A17 5G and Vivo Y31 5G offer much longer software support at similar prices.
